When Kristen and her family moved to Marshall, they weren’t sure what to expect from a new school district. They hadn’t grown up here—but quickly discovered that Marshall Public Schools offered more than just strong academics. It offered community.
“We have a 6th grader and an 8th grader in the Marshall schools,” Kristen shared. “My husband and I didn’t grow up or go to school in Marshall, so it’s been amazing to see the welcoming, community-focused culture the Marshall schools have. Especially at the middle school where our kids currently attend—I can’t say enough good things about the staff and administration. Their ability to ensure kids are safe, making connections, and learning is top-notch.”
One of Kristen’s favorite memories reflects that sense of connection. “I always love attending the band concerts,” she said. “Every one I’ve been to, Bennet Appel has been there cheering the kids on and making sure they all felt supported. That means the world to me as a parent.”
For Kristen, being part of the Marshall schools community is about more than just her own children’s experience—it’s about the future of the whole town. “Supporting our educators and administrators is so important,” she explained. “If we can’t attract and retain top talent, then our kids and our community are going to be the ones to suffer. Larger class sizes and fewer teachers mean some kids are going to slip through the cracks.”
She believes deeply that investing in schools today strengthens the entire community tomorrow. “There are kids who have so much potential, but without the staff and programming in place to support them, they may never get the chance to realize that potential,” she said. “Even later in life, I’ll always be a staunch supporter of schools—both with time and financial resources. Our kids are the future, and if we don’t back them now with the resources and people they need to be successful, that will affect the entire Marshall community down the road.”
That’s why Kristen is proud to Say Yes—to supporting the teachers, programs, and opportunities that help every Marshall student thrive.
